Putting it All in Perspective

How big is a tyrannosaurus compared to, let's say, Paris’s Arc de Triomphe? What's bigger: a dust mite or a snowflake?

Well, let me pull out my Nikon Universcale yardstick. This very cool website sizes up dozens of monsters and landmarks – from a single proton (one quadrillionth of a meter) to the whole universe (13.7 billion light-years wide).

The Flash app is packed with quirky facts, such as, “In the afternoon, our height decreases by 1-2 cm, while our weight increases by 2 kg, on average.” And the gorgeous interface shows that the French arch is eight times taller than a t-rex, and a snowflake is double the size of those bitty mites. Who knew?

Way to go Nikon.
